Former Sudanese Slave Speaks Out

Simon Deng, given as a gift into slavery at the young age of 8, spoke to students at Metuchen High School about his years of slavery and the genocide in Sudan. Now free, he uses his freedom to speak for the people in Sudan who are still without a voice.

US soldier gets possibility of parole in only 10 years for premeditated rape, murder, and arson

Paul Cortez, one of five soldiers who conspired to rape a 14-year old Iraqi girl, was recently sentenced to 100 years in prison. Under military law, he has the possibility of parole in only 10 years.
